Monday through Thursday are my busiest of "family" days. The care and keeping of the people in this house takes a great deal of my time. So that is what I have been doing. Cleaning, cooking, driving to and from. People say to me, "Well, you have a lot of kids" and yes I do. These days I guess four is a lot. None of our friends has more than two or three children. My mom had five kids and her mom had nine. So no, I don't think I have a lot of kids. Where is this going? No where. Just rambling.
I just don't feel content if I am not keeping everything up. It is hard for me to relax if there is a pile of laundry or a load of dirty dishes just lying there. Is anyone else like this? Trust me I am not a neat freak at all but just like some order in the house. I need to do morning dishes right now but am taking a second to check in while my favorite gardening show is on the TV.
I was going to buy some heart ornaments for my little tree but we found our lights we had and some extras in a box did the trick. So now a Valentine tree.
I baked biscotti on Monday. Big mistake as I think I ate most of it. It was so good.
So I must be off to start my chores before a little one needs picking up. Once daughter #2 gets her license, I will have much less driving to do. Yeah!! We are taking her out to practice daily now. I really need her to drive if you know what I mean. It will be a huge help with running the other kids around.
This little cabinet is bugging me. Too many colors going on. I think I shall take that blue cloth off the top. Every time I look at it it is all womperjawed as our cat uses this as a spring board to jump on top of the cabinet next to it. Very annoying spoiled kitty.
Told you just rambling today. It is warm and in the 70s. Oh boy does that feel good. We have been so cold for our area this week. I shall take Q out later and just sit in the sun.

I Love your blog . I check in every day , I dont mind the rambleing at all :) I am looking forward to warm 70 degree weather. Here in Ky it's been a very cold 32 -40during the days. It's not as bad as we usually have...no snow yet ,but January is yucky here and I am wanting sunshine and pool time. :) Have a great week. Thanks for sharing.
Lisa
Love your Valentine's Day Tree!! So cute!!
Hugs,
Debbie
do you have a biscotti recipe some where on your blog? that sounds delicious!!
love your tree. so cute!!
i was always amazed by my mom with all she did with 2 kids & a hubby too. i bet i would be totally blown away by what you do around the home. remember to relax & breathe a bit each day. keeping you - Mom healthy, wealth & wise. ha. ha!!
what is your weather like there in CA? we are having tons of rain. the weather folks said snow - nothing here as of yet. i wish for snow. know we need to rain (moisture) - hope it does not flood. fingers crossed. we may float away. ( :
It has been an interesting week around here...but I'm watching it snow right now!!! :D
I am a neat freak, so I get you....I think you're neater than you're admitting to being today.... ;P
I don't mind rambling, I enjoy others' as well as my own! Your biscotti look good, haven't made them but one time and that was a long time ago. xo
I do not think four is a lot of kids. I always wished I could have had more. I used to go to church with a family that had nine children and she home schooled too. The Valentines tree is sweet.
A fun post.
I wish it was 70 here! At least the sun is finally out again, for the first time since last Friday.
As a parent of 4 kids, I have found you just have to keep on top of things or the house disintegrates faster and worse than a house with only 1 or 2 kids. Really, if 4 kids leave shoes all lying around the family room, that's 8 shoes to trip over!
I just spent all afternoon leading 4 homeschool teens through a bunch of light refraction experiments, none of which worked very well.
I wonder if womperjawed is linguistically related to cattywompus -- which is what folks here in Tennessee would say.
I need to sign our 15 yr old up for driver's ed.
(there, a rambly response :-)
The Valentine tree is adorable! I hate a mess too, I have been working on crafts today and watching as the kitchen slowly but surely turned into a mess. Time to head out there and make things right. 70 degrees? sigh, sounds perfect!
I'm a lot like you. Hate to leave things that need to be done. If dishes aren't washed, they're at least soaking. I NEVER leave a plate with crumbs on the counter. Totally against my OCD ways. Of course I line up glasses on the shelf perfectly, so that tells you a lot. What I would give for your weather! You're so busy, yet you bake!
Brenda
I also wish it were 70 here. It is in the 20's I think and I hate the cold.
I love so much to hear how other people live their lives, so I don't mind the rambling:) Things need to be in order for me to relax too, and when the kids were young that meant never ending work. But, hey, it did kind of end when they moved out!
Ooooh, biscotti! I've never made it but want to someday. Yours looks delicious!
I'm like you - I can't relax if there are dishes in the sink or the house is a mess. Unless I'm totally exhausted, then I'll let it go. But it stresses me out!
Elaine
Lucky you to have weather in the 70's. I can see why you're warching a gardening show!
I had 4 children at home at one time, so I know just how you feel. But I got more done then than I do now. I think when your time is limited you just do what needs done without giving it much thought
Sweet Valentine tree!
Love the Valentine tree...we have two sons...that's it...we started late and didn't want to be one of those old parents...my husband is one of 9...he said it was alright...always someone to play with but not always enough Mom and Dad time. Now I'm rambling...love the warmth for a bit but its very windy here...have a great day!!
I hope you're not too busy to meet for lunch at the park tomorrow? Let me know. Andrew is even going to comb his hair for Q!
I don;t think I would ever be able to bake biscotti. To get to that crunch.... hmm.
Ahhhh, biscotti! I haven't made any in a long time. Thanks for reminding me. My dad was one of 8 kids, my mom one of 5. It seems that in our neck of the woods, people are once again starting to have large families. It's lovely.
I don't know how you get everything done you do!!
You are an inspiration.
Judy
I like the rambling! In fact I thought there must be something wrong with me that no one ever mentions that they have laundry or cleaning to do or normal every day stuff! LOL!
I like to hear about others daily life. Like having coffee with a friend after the chores are done or for a little break. I shampooed some carpet today, I'm still making yogurt...this time in the crock pot which is taking forever and last night I made some scones. I love biscotti but you're right....it goes fast! I forget to make it...I'll put that on my list for the next "treat" to make.
It's not 70 here! It was in the 50's though which is warm enough to work outside...dandelions are blooming!
I love your tree!!!! I have my little kitchen one up still and I was thinking of leaving it up all year for the different holidays and now that I see how cute yours is, I will for sure! Put your feet up tonight and relax...you deserve it!
I remember the days when my daughter started driving herself- we did then something similar to what a lot of insurance companies do now: now driving with any friends for the first 3 months (accident free), then driving daytime only (same policy), then night ok. Really cuts down on inattentive driving. And shut the cell phone OFF. Saved us a ton of money on insurance and made the kids (3) focus on safe driving... and they paid for the gas they used of course...
I LOVE biscotti! I make a mean cranberry biscotti.
I love these types of posts...when bloggers ramble, it's like sitting here talking with a friend!
We've had some cooler temps yesterday and today. We had some cold weather and wet too. Dallas received snow earlier in the week...not us. We were right on the line.
I used to be more of a 'neat-nic' when it came to the house. I wish I still were...my guard is down on the house keeping--I tend to turn a blind eye. But then it builds up--I get overwhelmed...whew! It takes more out of me then.
I hate that. I just create more work for myself.
Enjoy your warm sunshine--Pat
I love your phrase "The care and keeping of the people in this house". I too have 4 children {all young adults now ages 25,27,29,31} so I know how busy you can be. Enjoy every minute - it goes so fast.
That biscotti looked delicious!! I think it's natural to feel that way in a busy home - it creates a bit of order and if you fall behind it feels like you're playing catch up and can lead to stress! Don't worry - just do what works for you! Enjoy your weekend, J9 x
"It is hard for me to relax if there is a pile of laundry or a load of dirty dishes just lying there. Is anyone else like this?"
YES, absolutely!
I just love your little hutch with the chicken wire. So cute!
Brenda
I'm the same way...I feel like I need to get all of my 'chores' done before I can play so many days I never get to play! lol I love your Valentine tree! So very cute!
Thanks for sharing this great post at Simple & Sweet Fridays. Your biscotti looks so delicious!!
Jody
My Hubs keeps me at home as much as possible because he doesn't like to see laundry or dishes and he doesn't want to answer the phone! LOL It does pile up! Thank you for joining Home Sweet Home!
